Illinois Eye-Bank Open House

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Illinois Eye-Bank Open House on Saturday, October 17.

Attendees learned about our mission, toured the lab and met the staff who makes sight restoration possible. The local donor quilt was also on display.

We enjoyed seeing you!

Ambassador Spotlight: Anthony Diaz

The Illinois Eye-Bank would like to recognize Anthony Diaz in this Insight’s Ambassador Spotlight.  As a recipient, this 3rd grader isn’t afraid to speak to groups ranging from 15 Lions Club Members to a crowd of more than 800 people! Because of his restored vision, Anthony can now see the chalkboard at school and participate in swimming and soccer – his favorite sports. The Illinois Eye-Bank would like to thank Anthony for sharing his story and encouraging others to register their decision to become an eye, organ and tissue donor.

Attention Ambassadors: The Illinois Eye-Bank is putting together a database of information about our volunteers, and we would like you to be a part of it. The database will help us better keep track of our Ambassadors and their volunteer interests. To help us with this project, please consider filling out either the donor family form or the recipient form – whichever is applicable – and returning to Mary Schlereth via email at mschlereth@illinoiseyebank.org.

Naperville teen champions donation

For his Eagle Project, sixteen-year-old Naperville resident Kevin Haga is encouraging others to join the Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Registry through an organ donation awareness campaign he started, called “Give the Gift of Life, Sight and Mobility”.

The Eagle Project is Kevin’s final step in becoming an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America.

Kevin’s efforts have added 200 people to the Donor Registry since Labor Day Weekend. Read more about his project in the next issue of Vision and check out his video on YouTube.

November 13-15
National Donor Sabbath

Join thousands of people across the country in celebrating National Donor Sabbath, held November 13-15. The purpose of this event is to help people better understand where their religion stands on the issue of donation.

During National Donor Sabbath, we encourage our Ambassadors to share their donation and transplantation stories with their faith-based communities.

To find out more about National Donor Sabbath or to request materials, contact Mary Schlereth at (312) 706-6771.
