Michigan Eye-Bank Ambassadors, staff and Lion and Lioness volunteers will once again team up with Gift of Life Michigan and Secretary of State offices throughout the state for this year’s Buddy Day, taking place on April 8.
Held in recognition of National Donate Life Month each April, Buddy Day “Buddies” staff tables at their local Secretary of State branch offices to provide information about organ donation, and to encourage Secretary of State customers to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry.
During last year’s Buddy Day, 400 buddies helped 2,820 people add their names to the Donor Registry in Michigan. Newspapers, television and radio stations carried stories about the event.

If you’re interested in volunteering in Wayne and Oakland counties, consider getting involved with “Tell Us Now,” a campaign similar to Buddy Day.
Tell Us Now places volunteers at 34 Secretary of State branch offices throughout Oakland and Wayne counties on Wednesdays and Fridays for four hour shifts during April and May. The volunteers encourage Secretary of State customers to join the Donor Registry.
Anyone can volunteer for as many Tell Us Now shifts as they would like, but volunteers must attend a training program, held at Laurel Manor Conference Center on March 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Alison Claerhout at (734) 780-2146.

The Michigan Eye-Bank will be recognizing National Eye Donor Month in March with a special March calendar, featuring a different Michigan resident on each of the month’s 31 days. These are people in your community who have made the decision to join the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, and who want to share their stories in the hope that others will also join.
The poster-sized I Joined! calendars will be displayed in places where communities gather, such as libraries and town halls, and in health-related facilities, such as hospitals. If you would like to have one for your community, they are available in limited supply. Please contact Community Engagement Manager Lisa Langley at (800) 247-7250, ext. 135.
You can also view the calendar online at www.michiganeyebank.org, where a different person’s story will be featured every day during the month of March.
