Researchers
Research is an essential component of Midwest Eye-Banks’ dedication to the restoration of sight. When it isn't possible to give the Gift of Sight through corneal transplantation, the Eye-Bank offers the Gift of Hope by supporting preliminary research into the causes of blinding eye diseases. New vision research initiatives supported by Midwest Eye-Banks bring new ideas to life for the treatment and prevention of vision impairment and blindness. Several research grants provided through Midwest Eye-Banks have led to the development of larger research studies. Two studies have resulted in significant financial support for researchers from the National Institutes of Health. Midwest Eye-Banks has awarded nearly $2 million in seed money grants since its Eye and Vision Research Program began in 1980. Funding provided by the Midwest Eye-Banks sustains the development of promising ideas that can have a direct and positive impact on human health issues.
